This research assessed the physicochemical characteristics, energy potential, and CO₂/SO₂ emissions of five tropical wood wastes (Mahogany, Afara, Danta, Okwen, and Obeche) sourced from sawmill dumpsites in Benin, Nigeria. Calorific values varied from 20,476 kJ/kg for Obeche to 25,721 kJ/kg for Mahogany. Proximate analysis revealed a low ash level (0.76–1.99%) and a high volatile matter concentration. Comprehensive analysis indicated little sulfur (0.08–0.10%) and nitrogen concentrations. Combustion emission investigation revealed remarkably low SO₂ emissions (0.01–0.02%) on both wet and dry bases. The findings indicate that these wood wastes are viable renewable biomass resources for electricity production in Nigeria.
