The rapid expansion of social media platforms has intensified concerns regarding digital privacy, informed consent, and the accessibility of privacy policies. Although privacy policies are intended to inform users about data collection, third party sharing practices, and platform responsibilities, many policies have evolved into lengthy and cognitively complex legal documents that discourage meaningful user engagement. This study investigates the relationship between privacy policy length, user comprehension, and avoidance behavior on social media applications. Using a quantitative survey-based methodology, data were collected from 105 participants through an anonymous Google Forms questionnaire distributed both physically and digitally over a three-month period. Findings revealed that while 84.8% of participants acknowledged that applications collect personal data, most participants reported rarely reading privacy policies prior to accepting them. Additionally, 82.9% identified excessive length as a major reason for avoidance, while 81% reported that they would be more willing to read privacy policies if simplified. Existing literature further demonstrates that modern privacy policies continue increasing in length while simultaneously decreasing readability and cognitive accessibility. The findings suggest that current privacy policy structures undermine meaningful informed consent by prioritizing legal protection and regulatory compliance over user comprehension. This study argues that simplified and segmented consent systems may improve transparency, increase user engagement, and strengthen meaningful digital consent practices within social media environments.
