The Niger Delta region is widely recognized as one of the most climate-vulnerable areas in Nigeria due to its low-lying terrain and extensive network of waterways. Increasing occurrences of sea-level rise, flooding, saltwater intrusion, and coastal erosion have placed significant pressure on infrastructure systems, threatening their functionality and long-term sustainability. These impacts have resulted in the submergence of farmlands, damage to buildings and critical facilities, displacement of communities, and disruption of local livelihoods. This study examined the vulnerability of infrastructure in coastal communities of the Niger Delta and evaluated how existing systems respond to climate-related stressors. A mixed-method approach was adopted, drawing on qualitative data from academic literature, government reports, and expert opinions of built-environment professionals, alongside quantitative data on climate trends and resilience indicators. The findings revealed key challenges, including inadequate drainage systems, weak structural resilience, unplanned urban growth, and the absence of climate-sensitive planning frameworks. This study further explored adaptive strategies, including integrating green infrastructure, elevating and reinforcing critical facilities, adopting climate-resilient building codes, and implementing community-based early warning systems. The study concluded that achieving resilient infrastructure requires coordinated policy action, proactive design interventions, and active community participation.
